One of the top essentials to cultivating clinician-patient rapport in all aspects of patient care is communication. This module contains advanced techniques to help build confidence when communicating with patients from various walks of life.  With practice, continuous learning, mentorship, and experience,  one can improve his communication as a core skill—and thus, build a relationship of trust and honesty with his patients. 

Additionally, this module will feature comic panels from Callous Comics by Carlo Jose San Juan, MD showing humorous consequences of doctor-patient miscommunication. Callous Comics, a series that has been published in print since August 7, 1996, follows the life of struggling physician Dr. Rianne Nicah. Ultimately, the primary goal of these lessons is to help in preventing these incidents in day-to-day conversations!

Explain the consequences of poor communication in the healthcare industry
● Identify the essentials of patient-clinician communication
● Discuss how to integrate empathy into your daily conversations with your patients through active listening, honesty, and confidentiality
● Apply proper terminologies to use when communicating with unique families, such as adoptive and LGBTQIA+ families, and
● Describe the importance of cultural safety and inclusive communication with patients.
